About us
Background
Morecambe Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, so named in 1904 after the group's first performances as St Barnabas Players in 1903, quickly became known as Morecambe Amateurs to local audiences. Originally performing plays and comic operas, the increasing popularity of musicals resulted in MAODS producing their first musical in 1916. From 1920 onwards Vincent Mayor produced and acted in the shows for many years. Vincent was the uncle of the current society President, Norman Mayor. In the early years MAODS performed in The Royalty Theatre then moved to The Winter Gardens in the late 1940s. We now perform annually at The Lancaster Grand Theatre. Morecambe Amateurs are affiliated to the National and Operatic Dramatic Association.
