ME AND MY GIRL

This was a show from curtain up that was going to be a success. With a confident start from a strong and disciplined chorus, this musical had everything. One of the strengths of this show is that there are a number of parts which gave performers an excellent chance to show off their talents and contribute to the overall effect. Paul Jones as Lambeth Cockney Bill Snibson was great. He gave a very polished performance and his singing, dancing, comedy with the tiger skin was all there - brilliant. Sarah Hicks was perfect as cockney girlfriend - Sally - her acting, stage presence, singing and facial expressions were exceptional, and what can I say about her dancing - fab. They were the perfect foils for each other. Andy Whittle as the family solicitor Parchester and Karl Michael Roe as the upper crust twit Gerald used all their many talents to bring out the best of the comedy. Gail Bowskill playing Lady Jaqueline with designs on the new earl was in excellent form, displaying all her talents in comedy and particularly the raging passion on the sofa. Irene Melling was commandingly regal as the duchess, and together with Ray Jenkinson as John Tremayne they made their mark. All the supporting cast was good and the result was a very enjoyable evening. The dancers were well choreographed with good singing from the chorus. The Sun Has Got His Hat On, mMe and My Girl and the Lambeth Walk were all memorable. Good sets, colourful costumes, lighting and sound, not forgetting a good orchestra.
